What Other Principals Say… I can read. I can understand. I can do When such voices come out from the soul of a child then it is clear that facilitator facilitated the child very well. And, this can be easily done by ‘collaborative learning’. Collaborative learning is a learner-based activity or it can be peer learning. It involves students working in pairs or small groups to discuss concepts or fnd solutions to problems or achieving an academic goal. In this students teach each other by addressing mis-understandings and clarifying misconceptions. As we know in earlier times most of the families were joint families. In such families every work used to be completed with collaborative eforts. Tat’s why children used to learn basic teachings in their own families. But now we have to teach students even moral values and basic teachings. Because of nuclear family, now-a-days children don’t want to accommodate with others. Tey want everything separate. Children have become possessive now. Tat’s why to teach some basic concepts and skills collaborative teaching is the best way. Collaborative learning has a great impact on learners. It is benefcial in many ways to the students: • Promotes the student interaction. • Structures out-of–class learning. • Increases the understanding of the problems –questions, insights and solution. • Prepares students for real life, social and employment situations. • In this learners, are not dependent on others rather others are dependent on them. • Assimilates multiple views to deepen knowledge and promote critical thinking. • Develops higher level thinking, oral communication, self-management and leadership skills. • Develops sensitivity to share a common goal. • Mitigates learner’s isolation. • Fosters individual accountability to the team. • Develops independent learning strategies. To get good results: • First of all, we should clearly specify the academic task. • Te grouping and pairing of the students for the purpose of achieving an academic goal should not be more than 5-6 students. 34 Collaborative Learning
