Course Objective:
The prime objective of this course is to explicate and administer a simple assessment to understand children’s foundational reading ability.
The assessment can be administered conveniently to all children studying at the pre-primary and primary levels. This is based on wwww model i.e.
whenever, wherever, whatever & whosoever and it is used to strategize towards maintaining equity and equality among children’s learning.
The course material may be useful for pre-primary and primary level teachers of all schools, engaged in language-building competence.
There are four modules in this course that explain concepts which are in the form of reading material supported by easy-to-understand videos.
The course is very swift and simple and can be taken by anyone who wants to know children's basic reading level. Formats and tools can be downloaded
and used for conducting in-person assessments with children. The support Resource Material is also provided in order to enhance and achieving literacy
competency among students.
In this module, participants are introduced to the importance of measuring a child’s foundational reading. The module also includes an overview of the tasks in the reading assessment tool.
In this module, participants will be taken through a step-by-step process on how to build rapport with a child and make them comfortable before administering the reading assessment.
In this module, participants will be provided a more in-depth understanding of the reading assessment tool and how to identify learners at various levels of reading ability (Story, Paragraph, Word, Letter, and Beginner). Participants will also learn the process of assessment using case studies.
In this final module, participants will learn how to record learning levels of each child, how to summarize these results for a group of children and how to visualise and understand these results in a simple manner. Participants will also understand how to track progress of children in this module.
