CBSE is committed towards the development of skills in school students and aims to develop good human beings capable of rational thought and action, possessing compassion, empathy, courage, resilience, scientific temper and creative imagination with sound ethical moorings and values. It aims at making engaged, productive, and contributing citizens for building an equitable, inclusive and plural society as envisaged by our Constitution.
As per the recommendations of NEP 2020, Deptt of Skill Education has taken many initiatives for integrating Skill Education in its affiliated schools. More than 27 lakh students are presently studying Skill Subjects in classes IX-XII in approximately 22,000 affiliated schools.
Skill education department of Board is in continuous process of updating the curriculum of these courses as per the industrial requirements. Several training and awareness programs are also being conducted throughout the year to increase the awareness about the skill education.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India has emphasized the need for promoting skill development in schools to ensure that students are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century knowledge economy
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has been implementing PMKVY since 2015 to create an industry ready workforce and enhance the employability skills. The scheme targets schools/college drop outs, out-of-school children and unemployed youths in the age group of 15-45 years. Under the scheme the targeted groups are offered demand driven and industry-linked skilling courses that will enable them to choose a career path aligned with their abilities and aspirations.
It has been envisaged to leverage the existing infrastructure of schools after the school hours or on non-working days as ‘Skill Hub’ for imparting Skill Education and Training. In the year 2021-22, CBSE has introduced and implemented ‘Skill Hub’ under PMKVY 3.0 in selected schools on the pilot basis.
Now, Government of India has announced the launching of PMKVY 4.0 in the Union Budget 2023. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4[dot]0 (PMKVY 4[dot]0) is implemented between FY 2022-26 with a strong emphasis on making the programme candidate-centric by creating and enabling ecosystem to meet the emerging sectoral needs.
