Ajanta caves (Maharsashtra) are known for murals, chaityagrihas and monasteries and are hewn out of volcanic basaltic rock overlooking a narrow stream Waghora. There are 30 caves in Ajanta including an unfinished one representing Buddhist faith.

UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and 29 sites are declared as World Heritage Sites in India by UNESCO.

Agra fort (Uttar Pradesh) was constructed by the third Mughal emperor Akbar on the remains of an ancient site known as Badalgarh. The other monument made of red sandstone is Sikandra Fort which is the tomb of Akbar

Lumbini in Nepal is a famous Buddhist pilgrimage site where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Gautama Buddha. She is depicted in most of the Indian sculptures as holding branch of Shala tree and giving birth to Buddha. Gautama Buddha was the son of King Śuddhodana and Mayadevi.

Sarnath (Uttar Pradesh) is the famous archaeological site where first sermon was given by Buddha in deer park. The site is known for its chaitya, stupas and monasteries and also the Ashoka pillar.  

The Aguada Fort was constructed in 1612 by the Portuguese to protect Old Goa against the attacks of the Dutch and Marathas armies. The fort is divided into two parts-lower fort and upper fort.

 Ibrahim Rauza is in the Bijapur district of Karnataka. It was built by Ibrahim Adil Shah II in 17^th century CE and consists of his mosque and tomb in the same compound.

Pietra dura is the technique of inlay work in which high polished semiprecious-stones like lapislazuli, agate, jasper and jade etc. are used to create images and these are cut and then fitted in the walls with glue. Apart from Taj Mahal the work can also be noticed in the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula which was built by Nur Jahan for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg.

Lomas Rishi Cave (Bihar) is located in the Barabar hills which have the earliest rock cut caves of India. These caves were donated to the Ajivika sect and dates back to Mauryan period.

Shore temple is located in the Mahabalipuram or Mammallapuram in Tamil Nadu. It was built by Narasimhavarman II in 8^th century CE. The temple is dedicated to both Vishnu and Shiva.
